A living bone is soft, wet and little flexible so it can absorb pressure, around one third of the weight of a living bone is due to the presence of water. Also living bones have network of blood vessels and nerves running through them making them bleed when there is any type of fracture of bones. Whereas, a bone become dried and brittle only if it is dead. A dead bone is non flexible therefore, it can not absorb pressure.
