Fbs is full of growth factors, and depending on the cell line it may dramatically change the growth rate. Additionally, it will most likely affect gene and protein expression of cells as well, which will alter the phenotype of the cells. Overall, if you use higher fbs on cells, you will have to use higher percentage for all your experiments and all cell lines, or the data cannot be compared or interpreted
