what will happen if magnesium ribbon is not rubbed by sandpaper and then burn using a spirit lamp? What will be produced or will it react or not

As magnesium ribbion is rubbed with sandpaper to remove the protective layer of magnesium oxide and allow it to easily react with oxygen

Explanation:if magnesium ribbion is not rubbed with sandpaper no changes will occur. For instance it will burn producing a white dazzling flame.
