100% modulation is where the modulating signal drives the carrier to zero and is ... If the modulation signal amplitude is too great, any decent frequency modulator .

To find:
What will happen if “modulation index” is greater than 100% = ?
Solution:
If the “modulation index” is more than 100%, the same is termed as over-modulation. The ‘carrier level’ would try to go below the ‘zero point’. This can cause “serious interference to other users’ if not filtered.
The final result is loss of date as the message will not be communicated properly. This will damage the message as well as signal effectiveness, strength and quality. It is almost a fault condition. This also distorts the recovered “modulating signal”.
