Peristalsis, involuntarymovements of the longitudinal and circular muscles, primarily in the digestive tract but occasionally in other hollow tubes of the body, thatoccur in progressive wavelike contractions. Peristaltic waves occurin the esophagus, stomach, and intestines.

these are involuntary movement which occur in stomach , esophogus .if it does not happen there is a significant problem in digesting the food in large intestine
