Phenolphthalein is often used as an indicator in acid - base titrations. It is slightly soluble in water. There is no change in it when it is added to acid but when phenolphthalein is added to a base, it turns bright pink. Soap solution is a base, so when phenolphthalein is added to it, it will turn pink.
