If we make the raincoats of cotton fabric, it will immediately absorb the water and we will become wet.

  • The cotton fabric makes the hydrogen bond with the water molecule, thus it binds with the water. Thus purpose to save our body from the rainwater will not be fulfilled.
  • The absorbent material is a material having the capacity or tendency to absorb another substance.
  • sorbent, sorbent material - a material that sorbs another substance; i.e. that has the capacity or tendency to take it up by either absorption or adsorption.
  • Therefore raincoats cant be made from cotton because the cotton fabric cannot hold water since they are not waterproof. The cotton fabric is made up of natural fiber & natural fibere cannot hold water.
