Under waterlogged conditions ,nitrates can be denitrified by soil bacteria to form nitrous oxide and nitrogen gas.These work by reducing nitrification which reduces nitrates leaching and the production of nitrous oxide .These inhibitors can be mixed with nitrogen fertilizers or applied separately.
