what will happen if we will put an animal or plant cell into a solution of sugar or salt in water?

Case 1 plant cell is put in sugar or salt solution

The quantity of water in the solution is less than the amount of water in the cell. So it is a hypertonic solution. If a cell is put in a hypertonic solution then the water from the cell passes to the solution due to osmosis. Then the plant cell shrinks. This shrinking of plant cell is called plasmolysis.

Case 2 if animal cell is kept in sugar and solution

Same as plant cell that it shrinks due to osmosis. But the shrinking of animal cell is called crenation

HOPE THIS HELPS.......

Answer:

Explanation:

Generally Plant cell is when isolated then it kept in a sugar solution like mannitol which is hypertonic in nature for maintaining their shape and for long term use…. Actually the cell has the tendency to give turgour pressure upwardly so, the cell become turgid continuously and finally it burst and cell become die.

So to prevent this, we should keep it into sugar solution which is hypertonic ( higher concentration of solution than the cell so water come out from the cell and become shrink, called plasmolysis)solution. So when the cell in sugar solution it gives turgor pressure and tends to turgid but then sugar solution stops this and excess amount of the water comes out from the cell when it become turgid. And cells remains constant.

"1. If sugar or salt solution is less concentrated than the cytoplasm, then, the cell will swell.

2. If sugar or salt solution is more concentrated than the cytoplasm, then, the cell will shrink

3. If the concentration of sugar or salt solution is the same as that of cytoplasm, then, no change will occur
