When we lower the temperature of a gas, we decrease the kinetic energy of the molecules of the gas. And if the gas is compressed simultaneously, then the pressure is being increased and volume is being decreased. These factors will bring the molecules of the gas close to each other and the gas will liquify. Thus, upon cooling and compressing a gas, it liquifies, but this occurs at a critical temperature and critical pressure (the minimum temperature and pressure that should be applied to liquify a gas).
