What will happen to a marine fish kept in pure water and why?

when you put a marine fish in fresh water , the salt in there body absorbs the fresh water eventually drowning there cells and dying .
it's exactly the opposite for fresh water fish the salt on the outside of fish draws the freshwater from the fish dehydrating the fish to death .
