If the earth stops rotating, the value of acceleration due to gravity will be equals to 9.832 m/sec^2. Here is the reason,just imagine that initially earth is not spinning and you calculate some value of g lets say equals to X . now earth starts spinning and value of g is changed.why? because of earth'rotation , the centrifugal force push the object in outward direction
It's the centrifugal force,which is effecting g. If the centrifugal force is zero, then no change in the value of X and where is the centrifugal force is zero ?? “At poles”. At poles, g=9.832 m/sec^2.
At equator,the value of g is 9.780 m/sec^2, so therefore the object will weigh 0.5% more at poles than at the equator.
Note:- The above values are calculated neglecting the effects of air resistance.
