Metamorphosis in frogs, i.e. the transformation of larva into adult, takes place because of the hormone produced by thyroid gland in frogs, thyroxine. Iodine is the main constituent in the formation of thyroxine hormone. If the iodine is absent in water, the tadpole will not able to grow into frogs.

Answer:

ANSWER

Explanation: Iodine is an element of the thyroid hormone. The thyroid hormone is responsible for the control of metabolism and metamorphosis. If iodine is not available in the diet, then the thyroid may produce insufficient hormone which will affect the process of metamorphosis. So, if frog lays eggs in iodine-deficient water, then tadpoles hatched from these eggs will not grow into adult frogs.
