let side be x

then area =x^2

side becomes 3/2 x

area = 9/4 x^2

thus area becomes 9/4 times

Consider the side of the square to be = a cm

⇒The of this square is (side × side) = a × a = a²

When the side is increased by an half then the side becomes = (a + a/2) cm

                                                                                                        =(3a/2) cm

⇒  The area  of this square with side (3a/2) is ⇒ (side × side)

                                                                            ⇒ (3a/2 × 3a/2)

                                                                            ⇒ (9a²/ 4)

So, by this we can say that the area of the square is increased 9/4  times when its side is increased by an half.
