First and foremost what is a hypertonic solution.

Hypertonic solution is a liquid which has more solute concentration than solution. So when a cell is placed into such solution water from the cell will be forced out of the cell (because the cell is trying to balance it self) and this phenomenon is known asPlasmolysis.

If cell is placed in hypotonic solution, solvent molecules will follow from the solution to the cell, which will make it turgid.
