why the number of trophic levels limited in food chain

According to the 10% law, during the transfer of energy from organic food from one trophic level to the next, only about ten percent of the energy from organic matter is transferred the next trophic level.

Now, when the number of trophic levels are going on increasing, the energy obtained by higher trophic level organisms goes on decreasing. As a result the organisms should hunt many lower trophic level organisms for meeting it's energy needs, but more hunting causes greater expenditure of energy which could weaken the organism.

Therefore the trophic levels are limited to ensure that sufficient amount of energy is obtained by all higher trophic level organisms.
