If sodium react with ethanol, sodium ethanoate and hydrogen gas are formed.
2CH3CH2OH + Na -------------> 2CH3COONa + H2
2CH3CH2OH + Na -------------> 2CH3COONa + H2

Effervescence is what u call release of CO2
