depends on the dissolved solid, but most commonly, the compound becomes supersaturated and thus starts to precipitate.

Some substances display the reverse behavior (what is called retrograde solubility), at least within a certain range of temperature-pressure (and solution composition) conditions. Gypsum is one such substance at low temperatures (earth surface conditions); it precipitates when you increase temperature rather than when you decrease temperature.
