it means that when sulphur will react with oxygen it will give sulphur dioxide .

When sulphur reacts with oxygen, it forms sulphur dioxide. While testing it in the gas jar, we add a little water to the jas so as to make a solution of SO2. This solution when tested with litmus paper, turns blue litmus paper red
