The reaction is photosynthesis and takes place within the chloroplast of a cell.

The reaction is divided into the light phase and dark phase. During the light phase reaction water is split using radiant energy, to form energised hydrogen atoms and oxygen. The energised hydrogen atoms are then combined with carbon dioxide in the dark phase to form glucose.
