As food reaches the end of the esophagus, it enters the stomach through a muscular valve called the lower esophageal sphincter. The stomach secretes acid and enzymes that digest food. Ridges of muscle tissue called rugae line the stomach. The stomach muscles contract periodically, churning food to enhance digestion.

If food enters the stomach and the stomach muscles do not move then the following things will happen -
• The food will stuck into a particular place of our stomach because the food movement inside our stomach is possible due to movement of the stomach muscles.
• These stuck food materials will decompose in our stomach over the passing time.
• The decomposed food material will cause contamination in our stomach which will create infection.
• This infection can even lead towards death if no medical treatment is performed.
