hey mate...
Intercalated discs link the cell together and defines their border.
they are major portal for cardiac cell to cell communication which is required for coordinated muscles contraction and maintanence of circulation.. and of there will be no intercalated disc in cardiac muscle all these functions will not be performed.....

If intercalated discs are not present in cardiac muscles, it will not contract properly which leads to the improper supply of blood in heart.  

Explanation:

The role of the intercalated disc or the cross bands is to hold the adjacent cells to give strong bonding. This also plays an important role for the cardiac cell for communication among cells which is very much essential for the contraction and the coordination of the muscles. These discs also provides gap junction which allows the passing of the ions between the cells.
