What would happen if the backbone had only one bone instead of many small vertebrae

we can not bend ,sit ,stand ,walk and do soo many work

If the backbone had only one bone instead of many small vertebrae it would not be flexible like it's is right now we would not be able to bend or do other kind of activities how we are doing right now. A single long bone cannot bend down or backwards.We could have suffered from injuries leading to fatal disabilties.
