What would have happened if meiosis did not occur during the production of human sperm cell and egg cell?

Meosis is the division which results into haploid cells. As human gametes are always haploid, if meoisis do not occur it doesnt mean that they would divide by mitosis, it can only divide by meosis and if it is suspended or arrested than there will be no gamete formation take place

If meiosis would not have occured after every birth the number of chromosomes would be doubled . And thus humans would not give birth to humans but something else. So meiosis is necessary for reproduction of same species
