What would have happened if the backbone had one long bone instead of many vertebrae?

Our backbone wouldn't be bendable and we wouldn't be able to walk. we will have trouble doing everything because the backbone supports some of our weight so we won't be able to move if the backbone have one long bone instead of many vertebrae.
