If the collision between the gas molecules are not elastic then it will cause change in state such as we know that in liquid state there is a less space between molecules but in solid there will be no space between molecules.

During their motion, they collide with one another and with the side of the container. The pressure of the gas is due to the collisions of molecules with the slides of the container. - Collisions of the molecules are perfectly elastic, i.e. there is no loss of energy during collisions.
