 \large \bf {Question} :- When 1 is subtracted from five times a number and the result is divided by 3 more than twice the number we get \dfrac{4}{5}. Find the number.

 \large \bf {Answer} :-

Let the number be x

Five times a number = 5x

When 1 is subtracted from 5 times a number = 5x - 1

The result is divided by 3 more than twice the number = 2x + 3

According to the question,

\dfrac{5x - 1}{2x + 3} = \dfrac{4}{5}

5(5x - 1) = 4(2x + 3)

=> 25x - 5 = 8x + 12

=> 25x - 8x = 12 + 5

=> 17x = 17

=> x = \dfrac{17}{17}

=> x = 1

∴ The number is 1

Verification :-

\dfrac{5x - 1}{2x + 3} = \dfrac{4}{5}

=> \dfrac{5 × 1 - 1}{2 × 1 + 3} = \dfrac{4}{5}

=> \dfrac{4}{5} = \dfrac{4}{5}

LHS = RHS ✔✔

gullo02: 1 is not the correct answer , in the question it is given that the result is 4.5 not 4/5
gullo02: The correct answer is -29/8
