Given:

Mass of phosphorous reacted = 2.48 gm

Mass of NaOH reacted = 4.8 gm

Mass of PH3 produced = 0.51 gm

To Find:

The percentage yield of the reaction.

Calculation:

- The given equation is:

P4 + 3NaOH + 3H2O → 3NaH2PO2 + PH3

- According to this reaction:

124 gm of Phosphorous reacts with 120 gm of NaOH to produce 34 gm of PH3.

⇒ 2.48 gm of phosphorous will react with 2.4 gm of NaOH to produce 0.68 gm of PH3

⇒ The theoretical yield = 0.68 gm

- The actual yield = 0.51 gm

- Percentage yield = (Actual yield/Theoretical Yield) × 100

⇒ % yield = (0.51/0.68) × 100

% yield = 75 %

- So, the percentage yield of the reaction is 75 %.
