When 4.2 g of sodium hydrogen carbonate (NaHCO₃) is added to a solution of hydrochloric

acid (HCl) weighing 10.0 g, it is observed that 2.2 g of carbon dioxide (CO₂) is released into the atmosphere. The residue left behind if found to weigh 12.0 g. show that these observations are in agreement with the law of conservation of mass.

Answer:

Proved. Explanation is below

Explanation:

Weight of NaHCO₃  =4.2g

Weight of HCl= 10g

Weight of CO₂  =2.2g

Weight of residue =12g

According to law of conservation of mass

NaHCO₃ +HCl=CO₂ +residue

4.2+10=2.2+12

14.2=14.2

Since the masses are same before and after the reaction, thus results agree with the law of conservation of mass.

Hence proved.
