when 4.2g of NaHCO3 is added to a solution of CH3COOH weighing 10g it is observed that 2.2g of CO2 is released into atmosphere the residue left behind is found to weigh 12g show that observation are in agreement in law of conservation of mass

Answer: The law of conservation of mass is proved below.

Explanation:

Law of conservation of mass states that mass can neither be created nor be destroyed but it can only transform from one form to another. Mass remains conserved in a chemical reaction.

In a chemical reaction, total mass on the reactant side is always equal to the total mass on the product side.

For the given chemical reaction:

NaHCO3 + CH3COOH = Co2 + residue

Total mass on the reactant side =

4.2g + 10.0g. = 2.2g + 12.0g

14.2g. = 14.2g

Total mass on the product side =

2.2 + 12 = 14.2 g

As, the total mass on the reactant side is equal to the total mass on the product side. Thus, law of conservation of mass is satisfied.

Answer:

Weight of NaHCO3  = 4.2g

Weight of HCl = 10g

Weight of CO2  = 2.2g

Weight of residue =12g

According to law of conservation of mass

NaHCO3  + HCl = CO2  + residue

4.2 + 10 = 2.2 + 12

14.2 = 14.2

Since the masses are same before and after the reaction, thus results agree with the law of conservation of mass.

Hence proved.
