Given:

When a bar is stretched to its double-length.

To Find:

The longitudinal strain produced in it is

a. 0.5

b. 2

c. 1

d. 1.5

Solution:

The longitudinal strain is the ratio of change in length to the original length. The wire is stretched to double its original length.

Hence change in length = (2*L - L) = L (where L is original length. ) Therefore change in length is ΔL = L.

Hence strain =\frac{L}{L} = 1

The longitudinal strain produced in it is 1.
