When a body is attached to a spring balance and put in water, the reading will become less as compared when the body was in air.

1) This happens due to the phenomenon called buoyancy.

2) Whenever a body is immersed in water, the buoyant force opposite to the weight of the body.

3) Weight of a body in water = Weight of a body in air - buoyant force

4) The the reading in the spring balance will be less.
