Solution :-

Acceleration due to gravity at height h from the Earth’s surface is given by the relation :

g` = g / [1 + ( h/R) ]²

Here,

g = Acceleration due to gravity on the Earth’s surface.

R = Radius of the Earth

Given : when a body is placed at height R/2 from the earth surface.

g` = g / [(1 + (R/2R) ]²

= g / [1 + (1/2) ]²

= g / [(2 + 1)/2]²

= g / [3/2]²

= (4/9)g = 4/9 m/s²

Hence,

The force of gravity acting on the body = 4/9 m/s² or 4/9 g
