The parent cell has two strands in its DNA each complementary to the other. When one cell divides into two the daughter cells take up one strand from the parent DNA,and synthesize the complementary sequences.

When a cell reproduces,its DNA is copied and passed on to the offspring.DNA copying is an important step in the process of reproduction as DNA is the blue-print of the body design of the offspring.
