When a glass rod is rubbed with a piece of silk cloth then the rod: (a) and the cloth both acquires positive charge. (b) becomes positively charged while the cloth has a negative charge. (c) and the cloth both acquires negative charge. (d) becomes negative charged while the cloth has a positive charge?

The answer is (a).  

When a glass rod is rubbed with a piece of silk cloth then the rod: (a) and the cloth both acquires positive charge.

When you are rubbing the glass rod with the silk cloth, electrons are taken away from the atoms in the glass and transported to the silk cloth.

This leaves the glass rod with more positive than negative charge, we will get all total positive charges on the  rod and silk combo.
