Hey Friend,
The main factor we are talking here is about Molecules and their properties!
When a substance is heated, the molecules in that substance start vibrating and thus, move! The more energy they gain, the more the vibrate and thus, more movement.
This increases the inter-molecular space between the molecules thereby reducing the inter-molecular attraction.
The increase in volume with increase in temperature (by supplying heat) is called Expansion!
