as the metal X is added to salt solution of metal Y
and it forms salt solution of X and metal Y, then
X + salt Y --> salt X + Y
it means the metal X is more reactive than Y so as it replaces Y and forms it's salt .
also the reaction here is displacement reaction as
one reactant displaces the other .
