Answer:

For these type of questions we can do the method of inversion.

Another method:

Let the number as x.

So,5x+ 3 = 43

Suppose that three is not added to 5x.

=43 - 3 = 5x = 40

To find the value if x we can divide 40/5

x= 40÷5 = 8

Therefore the number is 8.

Hope this is helpful.

So the last step before we got our end result 43 was adding 3. Subsequently, we subtract 3 from 43 to go a step back. Therefore, 43–3=40.

The step before was we multiplied by 5, so this time we instead divide by 5. But remember we have to divide 40 by 5 not 43. It’s because when we are solving these question by solving backwards, we must follow the original order exactly in reverse. Now, 40/5=8. Finally, we have arrived at our mystery number, 8.

We can check by inputting 8 for the number being operated on. So “when a number is multiplied by 5”, we multiply 8 by 5. 8*5=40. Then “and 3 is added”, we add 3 to 40. 40+3=43. 8 checks out for being the correct answer. Your answer to this question is, 8.
