A small amount of sodium citrate is added, where into the blood bag? If so to the blood bag, it is very wrong. The blood collection bag is already loaded with anticoagulants and required preservatives in sterile, sealed conditions. The cap of the needle is removed under aseptic conditions only at the time of blood collection. Only the donor blood is entered into the bag. After the collection is completed the connecting tube is sealed in segments to prevent contamination. So, no way anything to be added to the blood bag.
