When a person is in respiratory distress, the origin and insertion of the serratus anterior muscle may actually switch, and the part of the muscle attached to the medial border of the scapula acts as the origin. how will this change the muscle's action

- Originates from first 8-9 ribs.
- Inserts on scapula.
- Usually, it causes upward rotation and abduction of scapula.

# In respiratory distress -
- In respiratory distress, scapula is stabilized and origin & insertion of serratus anterior is switched.
- In this case, it pulls the ribs upwards to allow more air into the lungs.
