When a piece of limestone reacts with dilute HCI, a gas X is produced. When a gas X is passed throug
lime water than a white precipitate Y is formed. On passing excess of gas X, the white precipitate
dissolve forming a soluble compound Z.
c) What are X, Y and Z?
d) Write equations for the reactions which take place:
(1) When limestone reacts with dilute HCI.
11) When gas X reacts with lime water to form white precipitate Y.

Hi there,

Welcome to brainly family , hope u well find all what u looking for,

♤Limestone formula is CaCO3

☆( X ) is carbon dioxide CO2

The equation

◇CaCO3 (s)+ 2HCl(aq) => CaCl2(aq) + H2O + CO2(g).

♤Limewater formula is Ca(OH)2

☆ (Y) is calcium carbonate CaCO3

◇The equation

Ca(OH)2 + CO2 => CaCO3(s) + H2O

♤ When passing CO2 excess amount Calcium carbonate turn into calcium hydrogen carbonate which is soluble

☆ (Z) is calcium hydrogen carbonate

Ca(HCO3)2

◇The equation

Ca(OH)2 + 2CO2 => Ca(HCO3)2(aq)
