Vinegar(Acetic acid) + Baking soda(Sodium hydrogen carbonate) --> Carbon dioxide + sodium acetate + Water (H2O)

how will you identify the gas produced ?

  1. When the gas evolved is passed through lime water, then lime water turns milky.
  • Carbon dioxide (CO2) + Lime water [Ca(OH)2] --> Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) + Water (H2O)

Baking soda is bicarbonate and vinegar is acetic acid,it is an acid base reaction which releases CO2, escaping through bubbles making a hissing sound.

CH3COOH + NaHCO3 ➡️ CO2 + Hissing sound
