3 x^3 + 2x^2 + ax + b= ( 3x^2 - 4x + ( a-8))( x+2) -1

As remainder left is 2( a- 8) = -1

a- 8 = -1/2

a= -1/2 + 8 = 15/2

Put x= -2

3( -2)^3 + 2( -2)^2 + 15/2 × -2 + b= -1

24 + 8 -15 + b= -1

17 + b= -1

b= -18
