Answer: I think you are talking here about transfer of sound waves from one medium to another. So, when sound waves moves from one medium to the other, only energy is transported.

Take an example: If I produces any sound, The particles near my mouth will start vibrating and these particles will possess kinetic energy. After sometime,  These particles will transfer their energy to the neighboring ones and they will start vibrating and this process goes on.
