when a stone is thrown vertically upwards its velocity is continuosly decreased.why?

when a stone is projected upwards then gravitational acceleration acts opposite to velocity and hence g lowers it's velocity up to 0

As the gravity always acts in downward direction the object thrown upwards will experience negative acceleration therefore the stone thrown vertically upwards its velocity is continuously decreased.
