Rutherford gold foil experiment
1.Many of the rays got no deflection which means atom has a lot of empty spaces in it.
2.Few rays got deflected to some angles means there were some particles embedded in it which was later termed as Electons and few were protons in the nucleus
3.One in 10000 got deflected back in same angle because they touched a very heavy and dense structure later termed as Nucleus.
Hope it helps!! Mark Brilliant

Because an atom has only one nucleus and it is located at center. So the alpha particles which travelled through the nucleus got deflected and the others didn't.
