u = - 50 (since u is always negative)

magnification = -1/2

new magnification = - 1/5

new u = ?

m= -v/u

- 1/2= -v/-50

-1/2* - 50= -v

25 = -v

v = 25

1/f= 1/v +1/u

1/f= 1/25+1/-50

1/f= 2-1/50

1/f= 1/50

f = -50 (f is negative for  concave mirror)

m = f/ f-u

-1/5= - 50/ -50-u

-1/u=1/5

u = -5 cm

where should the object be placed to get a magnification of -1/5= - 5 cm

hope this helps u
