Prince Gautama, after seeing the sufferings of the world which he was before shielded from, left his life as a prince and went on a search for enlightenment.

He roamed for 7 years, before finally sitting below a Boddhi tree.

After 7 days of meditation, he was enlightened and was thus called Buddha or the enlightened

Answer:

One day when prince Siddhartha Gautama went for hunting. He chanced upon an old man, a sick man, monk begging for alms and a funeral possession. These sites moved him away and he started searching for the reasons of the problem faced by humans. He wandered for seven years and sat under a Peeple tree for 6 days and after being enlightened he named the

tree as The Bodhi Tree. He started preaching people from place to place and came to be known as the Buddha - the enlightened.

Hope it helps.
