To answer your questions, rainbows are generally formed whenever it is raining.
- Rainbows are formed during rains, as the droplets in the air reflect, refract, and most importantly, disperse the sunlight entering the atmosphere.
- This means that the white sunlight is broken down into its constituent colours forming a spectrum of 7 seven colours(VIBGYOR) by the droplets in the air. This is exactly why rainbows are formed in a direction opposite to that of the sun.
