The ancient Olympic games started around two thousand seven hundred years ago at Olympia in the Northwest of Greece. They are thought to have begun in 776 B.C. They were held as a part of a religious festival to honor Zeus, the king of the Gods. It was held every four years and people from all over Greece came to watch it and take part in the games.
